The episode opens not with Tita鈥檚 kitchen, but with a close-up of dying embers. We are on the De la Garza ranch, in the aftermath of the previous episode鈥檚 confrontation. Dawn light filters through the smoke-stained window of the outdoor oven. Tita (Azul Guaita) kneels before it, pulling out a blackened cast-iron pan. Her face is smudged with ash, her eyes hollow. The voiceover (Narrator, voiced by Lumi Cavazos) tells us: 鈥淭here are fires that cook food, and fires that consume the soul.
